Here We Go Again

Readers of my occasional travel blogs may recall that in 2018 I set off on a seven country tour of Europe, ironically described as the 'Brexit Exit' tour. At the start of the 2019 as I thought about possible travel plans for the coming year (whilst recovering from a broken wrist) I hadn't expected to still be able to travel as an EU citizen across Europe this summer. Thanks, in no large part to the ineptitude of our politicians, another 'Brexit Exit' tour - is possible: The Sequel.

So...here we go again.

This year our travel plans involve an equally long road trip that will take us through France from north to south across the Loire, to the Atlantic coast via the Dordogne, before reaching the Pyrenees where we enter Spain. After exploring some of the cities and tasting the food of the Basque region, including Bilbao, we will head eastwards visiting historic sites, hill towns and Pyrenean mountain villages, detour to Andorra and then re-enter France on the Mediterranean coast. The return journey will take us through the Auvergne and a different mountain landscape before we return via the outskirts of Paris to visit Versailles. All told we should cover around 3000 miles and sleep in 18 different places - a temporary nomadic lifestyle but one that's bound to throw up a few surprises and spur of the moment detours - the joy of travel!

Its not a coincidence that the route takes in several wine regions, the Loire, Bordeaux and, in Spain, Navarra and Rioja so it goes to follow that our trip may take in a few vineyards and bodegas. Along the way I'm bound to acquire a few bottles so its probably safe to assume that the car may be heavier on the return crossing!

I'll be posting occasional blog entries - so those who enjoy following our travels will be able to find out what we get up to!
